Annie Wilson, 1985-1997
Why we exist
Annie's Havens is named for Annie Wilson, the daughter of our founders, William and Hilda. In 1989, a cerebral haemorrhage during surgery left Annie with severe physical disabilities. Her parents learned to do everything they could to help her, and advocated successfully for her full inclusion in her local school, where she thrived.
Caring for Annie taught William and Hilda an enormous amount about raising a child with complex medical and developmental needs, and earned them the trust of the medical, therapeutic, and educational professionals they worked alongside. With that hard-won experience, they began opening their home to other children with special needs, and have cared for many across Ontario since the mid-1990s.
Annie passed away in 1997, but she inspired everyone who knew her, and her life shaped one of Ontario's most distinctive foster care programs. Her brother, Chris, now helps lead the agency, carrying that same understanding forward.
Our approach
Annie's Havens Ltd. is licensed by the Ministry of Children, Community and Social Services and has provided foster care in Ontario since 1996, taking referrals from Children's Aid Societies across our service area. Our care is child-centred, trauma-informed, and culturally responsive, and our homes are hands-off, meaning physical restraint is never used.
We're committed to a positive growth environment for every child in our care, with careful matching and exceptional support for our foster parents. Our mission
